Nib guide & FAQs

Extra-fine (EF) — best for small handwriting; Fine (F) — everyday use; Medium (M) — balanced line width; Broad (B) — expressive strokes. Specialty stubs and italics create calligraphic width variation.

Use waterproof or archival inks for documents. For everyday use, dye-based inks are fine but avoid leaving pens unused for months in hot humid conditions.

Yes — we perform smoothing, tine alignment and swaps on-site in Sydney. Contact us with the pen model and nib size for a quote.

Care, cleaning and storage

Regular flushing with clean water (or recommended cleaner) keeps feed channels healthy. Store pens nib-up if not in use for long periods and use protective cases for travel.

  • Flush every 4–6 weeks if in regular use
  • Use appropriate cleaning solutions for pigmented inks
  • Replace seals on piston converters when needed
